ABA-VR Project Showcases Innovative Virtual Reality Training for Autism Support Across Europe
International multiplier events demonstrate the future of behaviour management training for higher education students and professionals
The Erasmus+ ABA-VR (A Behaviour Management Training through Virtual Reality: Preparing Higher Education Students to Support Individuals with Autism) project has successfully concluded a series of multiplier events across Europe, showcasing innovative educational resources that combine Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA), Behavioural Skills Training (BST), and Virtual Reality (VR) to enhance the preparation of future professionals supporting autistic individuals.
Between April and June 2026, dissemination, training, and scientific events were organised across the project partnership in Cyprus, Denmark, Spain, Ukraine, the Czech Republic, and North Macedonia. The events brought together academics, university students, special educators, psychologists, researchers, and practitioners to explore innovative approaches to autism education and professional training.
A key highlight was the opportunity for participants to experience the project's immersive learning environment through live demonstrations of the ABA-VR platform. In Cyprus, Vimodo Research & Education Hub hosted an interactive training event where participants from the European University of Cyprus explored the evidence-based ABA curriculum and tested the VR application designed to strengthen behavioural intervention skills.
Similar events at the University of Tetovo (North Macedonia) and Masaryk University (Czech Republic) introduced participants to the project's comprehensive educational resources, including the methodological handbook, modular curriculum, online learning platform, Personal Learning Environment (PLE), and VR training scenarios. These demonstrations illustrated how immersive technologies can support higher education programmes, teacher preparation, and continuing professional development.
The project also gained visibility within the scientific community. In Ukraine, ABA-VR was presented at the International Scientific and Practical Conference "Promising Directions of Modern Science and Education," where experts discussed advances in inclusive education, Applied Behaviour Analysis, autism support, and virtual reality applications. Meanwhile, in Denmark, researchers successfully conducted a pilot multiplayer VR testing session at the HIVE Lab in Copenhagen, evaluating the functionality, usability, and collaborative potential of the virtual learning environment.
Feedback from participants across all events highlighted the significant potential of integrating evidence-based behavioural approaches with immersive technologies. The ABA-VR resources were recognised as an innovative solution to improve professional competencies and support more effective educational practices for autistic individuals throughout Europe.
The ABA-VR project demonstrates how digital innovation can transform higher education by providing future educators and professionals with practical, evidence-based training in behaviour management through engaging and realistic virtual learning experiences.
